EPA RSL/RML 1.0

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has established Regional Screening Levels (RSLs) and Regional Removal Management Levels (RMLs) to assist in the assessment and management of environmental contaminants.

RSLs represent chemical-specific concentration thresholds for individual pollutants found in air, drinking water, and soil. When these concentrations are exceeded, it may trigger the need for further investigation or remedial actions at affected sites.

Similarly, RMLs are specific to tap water and soil, providing concentration levels that can support EPA decisions regarding removal actions. Both RSLs and RMLs are determined based on risk assessment methodologies, incorporating the latest toxicity values, standard exposure assumptions, as well as relevant physical and chemical properties.
